Overview

Borage flowers and leaves are edible, with a taste that many compare to a cucumber. It can be eaten raw in salads, mixed into soups and stews or even used as a garnish. It has been used for centuries as a natural medicine to support aid, digestion, and reduce inflamation.

Conditions

Select a sunny location (6+ hours of direct sunlight), with well-drained soil.

Planting

Plant seeds in early spring or late summer (Use our grow calendar tool to find specific planting dates for your region!), outdoors in groups of 2–3, spacing them 12–18 inches apart. Thin to the one strongest seedling per group when plants are a few inches tall.

Care

Maintain consistent soil moisture, avoiding over watering. Borage is a hardy and self-sufficient plant, requiring minimal care. Prune spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming. Borage is a self-seeding annual, so once established, it will often return each year.

Pets and Disease

Borage is not affected by serious pest or disease issues. Look for aphids, slugs, snails, and leaf-mining flies that may damage the foliage. The herb may get powdery mildew once they have flowered.

Harvest

Once borage matures, harvest the leaves and flowers as needed. The plant leaves do not dry well, so use them fresh. Pick the flowers before they have fully bloomed, and when harvesting, remove the leaves and flowers from the plant with your fingers or with scissors.

Bargain Espresso Machine Works Great
Color: Silver
Great espresso machine, and a bargain at only $100! Pulls perfect shots with a generous amount of crema. And, it comes with a high-quality tamper. Tips: When you first turn it on, remember to run the steam wand for a couple seconds to prime the system. Test/experiment with the grind to get it just right--40 seconds with my blade grinder is working for me.

Great Espresso Machine for Beginners
Color: Silver
Update: Milk teamer doesn't deliver the foam like at the first couple of days, and the espresso doesn't come with the crema any longer. Somehow the pressure goes above the espresso range, and I tried to decrease the amount of coffee, and no results. I am so disappointed. First thing that impressed me about this little espresso machine is how easy it to use. You can make a double espresso shot in literarily 1 minute. Second thing is size, the machine is pretty compact that you can place it anywhere in the kitchen without worrying about taking too much space. Also, it heats up quick, and the options are straightforward. The water tank is just the perfect size, which is excellent for me, and I don't have to refill water constantly. Performance-wise, it feels solid and does an excellent job making shots like what you'd expect in a cafe. The water pressure is just right, delivering this espresso shot without the extra acidity. The flowmeter regulates the water evenly which is great in making that creamy espresso. Something else to note, it's small and also quiet, which is big to me since the last one was making unnecessary noise every time I make a shot. Now, the milk frother is pretty decent, and create that foam you'd love to see in your cappuccino and latte. Overall, this is a pretty decent choice, and feels durable.

Nice upgrade 51mm for me
Color: Silver
This is my second 51mm machine. I never used the included handle or basket… I kept my existing HUGH IMS precision basket and bottomless portafilter. The temp and preinfusion are set and not adjustable but fine (reduced variables). I defeated the shut off by volume by setting higher than needed (wish that was easier to turn off). I like to manually shut off when I hit 30g on my scale. The machine will drip since there is not solenoid valve so I just pull the scale from the try when mouse tail breaks and drip starts. The steam wand and hot water dispenser is a massive upgrade (from Capresso EC50) and the real reason for my upgrade. I would have paid $50-100 more for the improvements listed… but I guess most people would not so this is about the best option for me with 51mm (keeping all the 51mm three lug portafilter stuff I own). 5 stars = for me and the price
